Valencia And Saugus Advance To CIF-SS Championships

Both the Valencia and Saugus girls’ basketball programs have punched their tickets to the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section (CIF-SS) championship games in their respective divisions.

The two Santa Clarita teams will take the court at Toyota Arena on Friday, each aiming to bring home a title.

Valencia secured its Division 1 championship berth with a 59-46 semifinal win over Windward.

Kamilla Basyrova led the Vikings with 21 points, going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.

Cara McKell continued her strong postseason run, recording a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

With the victory, Valencia will look to capture its second CIF-SS championship when it faces La Salle on Friday at 8 p.m.

Saugus earned its Division 2 championship spot with a hard-fought 48-46 road win over Camarillo.

The Centurions trailed 24-20 at halftime, and after both teams scored 12 points in the third quarter, Camarillo held a 36-32 lead entering the fourth.

In the final frame, Jasmine Garcia took over, scoring 12 of her 17 total points in the quarter.

EvaMarie Rios added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Rachael Correa contributed 10 points to help secure the win.

Saugus will face Crescenta Valley in the Division 2 championship at 6 p.m. Friday at Toyota Arena.
