The top two teams in the Foothill League, West Ranch and Saugus, remain as the final Santa Clarita Valley programs competing in the CIF-Southern Section (SS) playoffs as they head into the quarterfinals.
Although both squads share the same stage in the postseason, their paths to this point have been quite different.
West Ranch at Orange Lutheran
The Wildcats are set to hit the road Wednesday evening to take on Orange Lutheran in the Division 2 CIF-SS quarterfinals.
West Ranch has cruised through the playoffs so far, sweeping Tesoro and Roosevelt in the first two rounds. In their most recent match against Roosevelt, sophomore standout Devyn Kobe led the team with 13 kills and 23 digs.
Kobe has been a consistent force all season, pacing the Wildcats with 337 kills. She also tied with Dani Clewis for a team-high three blocks in the last game.
Orange Lutheran enters the matchup with similar momentum, having swept both Marina and Sunny Hills in earlier rounds. The Lancers have leaned on a talented group of underclassmen, including freshman Sienna Cicero (228 kills), Charlee Bengard (169 kills), and Addison Underwood (140 kills). Senior Kenzie Houstan leads the team defensively with 306 digs.
With both teams carrying strong momentum, Wednesday’s showdown promises to be a high-stakes battle between two balanced programs.
Saugus vs. St. Margaret’s
The Centurions will host St. Margaret’s on Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. in the Division 3 quarterfinals.
Saugus is coming off a hard-fought five-set victory over Polytechnic, a true team effort with multiple players stepping up across the stat sheet.
Freshman Emily Tran led the team with 23 digs, while sophomore Callie Peterson recorded six blocks. Kimora Hogains tallied 14 kills, followed closely by Taylor Stires with 13 kills.
After a gritty, all-around performance, the Centurions will look to carry that same energy into their matchup against St. Margaret’s as they aim for a spot in the semifinals.
