Santa Clarita Business Owner Donates Over $3,000 For SCV Disaster Coalition To Support Saugus High Shooting Victims

A Santa Clarita business owner collected over $3,000 in donations for the Santa Clarita Valley Disaster Coalition to help support staff, students and their families at Saugus High School.

Vincent Bird, the owner of SCV Decals, donated over $3,000 to the SCV Disaster Coalition to support families affected by the Saugus High Shooting, thanks to his efforts in providing free decals to school supporters.

According to Bird, originally all decals were made at cost, with no expectations nor want of repayment, but when thankful community members started offering donations for supplies, he decided to give all extra proceeds to the families affected by the shooting.

“They just started bringing me cash, and that really wasn’t my intention at first, so what better thing to do than to donate to the good cause? Some of the money did go to materials so I could keep making them,” said Bird. “As of (Nov.21) I’ve probably made over 1,500 decals and then I kind of lost count.”

A 2002 graduate of Canyon High School, Bird’s own son attends an elementary school near Saugus High School, marking how close to home the shooting hit for his family.

“I love running my business here, I love raising my son here,” said Bird. “I love my hometown, so I’m just trying to give back as much as I can.”

The day after the Saugus High shooting, Bird decided to put his business to work in support of the families impacted by the shooting, doing his part to help the community heal.

His business, SCV Decals has existed for about five years but has only been a full-time pursuit for about three. Bird thought that by offering his decals for free that he would be able to find a way to help others in the community heal and show their own support.

The positive response Bird got from community members was overwhelming, receiving hundreds of orders in the first week, and receiving dozens more every day.

“This community is awesome. I had a line – on Saturday and Sunday – out the door,” Bird said. “The community is coming together.”

Bird currently has two options available for decals, including one design that incorporates the school colors of all public high schools in the Santa Clarita Valley

He is also open to submissions of other designs that community members might be interested in, sharing that the Saugus Swim Team had recently commissioned their own decal design.

Bird mentioned that the experience was a very important learning opportunity for his own son, teaching him the value of giving back to the community as they worked together to organize and fill orders.

“I’m just going to keep going. As long as anybody wants them, I will keep making them,” said Bird. “It could be a year, two years, I will still make them.”

Anyone interested in obtaining a free small Saugus Strong decal is asked to contact Bird via his professional Facebook page, SCV Decals.

Larger, multi-color decals depicting all SCV public high school colors – designed by Troy Lendman and his sister Bree Kiker – are also available, though due to supply costs and time requirements must be bought for $2-$4, depending on the size of the order.

SCV Decals is still accepting donations, which can also be directly submitted via the Santa Clarita Disaster Coalition’s website.
