Saugus High School Principal Vince Ferry named each student and staff member as they came to the front fo the room, providing an overview of how they had displayed courageous behavior in helping others.
“The kids did a lot to help that day, it wasn’t just the teachers,” said Board President Linda Storli-Koontz. “My granddaughter goes to school there and she was one of the witnesses, and getting the kids up there and honoring them for how they reacted was the least we could do.”
Storli noted that one of the most moving parts of the meeting in her eyes was the speech given by Ferry.
“He loves his school and hated what happened, but loves the way that his students and staff reacted,” said Storli. “We’ve trained and trained and trained… but when it really happens that’s when you see what people do. The students and teachers were amazing.”
Those recognized by the board include Saugus High School staff members: Jerome Castaneda
Venetia Colwell, Marcus Garrett, Kaitlin Holt, Jim Klipfel, Theresa LaGiusa and Jim Mercadante.
