Samantha Ford was selected for her efforts in organizing a shoe drive for students in need, which she decided to launch after noticing children wearing rundown and incorrect-sized shoes to her gym class.
“We were looking for a guest of honor to throw the first pitch and Samantha immediately came to mind for her amazing charitable work,” sid Patrick Downing, arts & events supervisor for the city of Santa Clarita.

Ford’s shoe drive has gained national attention, and to date has collected hundreds of shoes, according to city officials.
“I am completely honored to be throwing the first pitch,” said Ford. “I think it is important for us to realize that there are people at home who need our help. We don’t have to travel across the world to make a difference. And I am so grateful to live in a great community that’s supportive of kids. It might be a big community but it still feels small and the people care.”
