A deer hunter was transported to the hospital by helicopter Saturday after an accidental shooting in Canyon Country.
Around 9:15 p.m. Saturday, first responders received reports of a person being accidentally shot in the 27800 block of Oak Springs Canyon Road in Canyon Country, said Shirley Miller, a spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“Upon investigation, deputies determined that five adult males had been deer hunting in the area when one of the men accidentally discharged a handgun he was carrying, sustaining a gunshot wound to his right leg,” Miller said.
The injured man was airlifted to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to officials.
“Deputies determined that no crime had occurred. All individuals involved possessed valid hunting permits, and the firearms were properly registered,” Miller added.
