Previously published (1:00 p.m.) :A series of underground vault explosions outside Toppers Pizza in Valencia prompted an evacuation and closed the busy intersection of Valencia Boulevard and Magic Mountain Parkway Sunday.

The first reported explosion occurred around 12:06 p.m. near Toppers Pizza.

Additional explosions were reported at approximately 12:14 p.m. and again at 12:16 p.m., according to Los Angeles County Fire Officials.

Michael Nasir, Public Information Officer with the California Highway Patrol, said the situation could have been significantly worse.

“We got lucky on it,” Nasir said. “A few explosions in the vault, but the fire department is able to keep the scene safe. Edison is working their magic now.”

Southern California Edison turned off the power in that area and local personnel have shut down the major intersection for an unknown duration.

Despite the explosions, officials reported at approximately 12:27 p.m. that there was no visible smoke or active fire at the scene.

Toppers Pizza was evacuated as a precaution and power to the surrounding area was shut off. A power outage is currently impacting nearby businesses.

As a result of the electrical and possible gas-related emergency, the intersection of Valencia Boulevard and Magic Mountain Parkway remains closed to traffic.

Authorities are urging drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes while emergency crews work to secure the scene.

There is currently no estimated time for when the roadway will reopen.
