Nearly 2,000 Castaic SCE Customers Under Consideration For PSPS

With hot, dry and windy conditions predicted, nearly 2,000 Castaic Southern California Edison (SCE) customers are under consideration for Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) on Friday and Saturday.

High winds are expected in the Castaic area and other parts of Los Angeles County on Friday and Saturday, SCE officials said.

“The strongest winds, from this Santa Ana wind event, are expected from Friday night until Saturday morning,” SCE officials said.

The winds combined with locally dry vegetation increase the risk of wildfire — meaning that PSPS may be needed to protect communities.

“The areas in scope in L.A. County are places that did not receive significant rain from storms earlier this year — leading to dry vegetation and increased fire potential,” Edison officials said. “Additionally, the expected winds will continue drying grasses and vegetation and will increase the fire risk.”

There are 1,897 customers under consideration for PSPS on Friday and Saturday.

Weather and other factors may change which customers are in scope and if, where and for how long they are affected.

At this time, no customers are without power due to PSPS.

“We know that PSPS significantly affect our customer’s daily lives and create hardships for our customers and communities. We are working to limit the scope of possible PSPS to only the areas that are facing the highest threat of wildfire and are taking actions to keep our customers informed,” SCE officials said.

Should a shutoff be necessary, SCE will attempt to restore power to customers as soon as it is safe to do so after the weather event ends, and after crews inspect the lines and determine it is safe to re-energize an area.

While SCE makes every attempt to alert customers in advance, in situations where the weather forecasts shift suddenly, we may not be able to provide advance notice.

SCE’s online interactive outage map shows areas being monitored for potential shutoff, and where power is currently off, in a map and through an address lookup tool. The site is updated with near-real time circuit status during PSPS events.

There may be outages strictly related to weather and high winds in the affected areas, unrelated to a PSPS. The interactive outage map will show all outages including those related to weather, PSPS, maintenance, and rotating outages if applicable.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
