Southern California Edison is working to repair equipment after an explosion in Canyon Country left 20,703 residents temporarily without power on Thursday, according to officials.
Reports were received around 8:55 a.m. of a widespread power outage in the Canyon Country area, with residents stretching from Fair Oaks neighborhood to Ruether Avenue reporting a lack of power.
The cause was eventually determined to be a Southern California Edison high voltage box and underground substation on the 18200 block of Soledad Canyon Road between Ironstone Drive and Solemint Road, according to Los Angeles County Fire department officials who responded to the incident.
“There was a call that someone heard an explosion,” said Austin Bennet, spokesperson for the LACoFD. “They said the high voltage box and substation had exploded, we’re working with Edison now.”
Power is expected to be restored to most customers by 9:57 a.m. Thursday morning, according to the SCE website.
