Public Safety Power Shut Offs Implemented In Areas In Canyon Country

Officials with Southern California Edison (SCE) have implemented a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) in Canyon Country, with power not expected to be restored to the area until Wednesday evening.

On Monday morning, SCE officials implemented a PSPS in the northwestern portion of Canyon Country, placing them among the over 1,600 customers who had their power shut off as of 11:15 a.m. Monday.

Initial estimates from SCE indicate that power would not be restored in these areas until 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Additionally, nearly all of the Santa Clarita Valley was being monitored for similar outages as of Monday morning, with the longest duration listed as lasting through Wednesday.

A map of the impacted areas of the Santa Clarita Valley as of 11:15 a.m. Monday can be viewed below:

The implementation of PSPS comes as both a Fire Weather Watch and a High Wind Warning have been called for in the Santa Clarita weather forecast due to the abnormally high winds the valley experienced Monday.

“When forecasts indicate elevated weather conditions, we’ll begin assessing the potential impact to affected areas,” a statement from the SCE website reads. “We’ll analyze historical data to help predict the likelihood of a wildfire occurring, closely monitor weather watch alerts from the National Weather Service, and place incident responders on alert, if needed.”

When a PSPS is instated in any of the monitored areas, SCE officials say that Community Crew Vehicles and Community Resource Centers will be made available to support customers in impacted areas.

“We observe physical distancing practices and provide Customer Resiliency Kits, which include PSPS information, light snacks, water, small resiliency devices, and personal protection equipment,” a statement from the SCE Outage Center site reads.

Public Safety Power Shut Offs Implemented In Areas In Canyon Country

  1. What a poor map, again, with no name of streets! And all the way until Wed.!? Unbelievable!

  2. To plan to be without power for over 50 hours – as a precaution for faulty Southern California Edison Equipment – leaves me speechless – (also leaves me powerless!!!!)

  3. power was restored around 4:30 pm

  4. So…
So Cal Edison hasn’t upgraded their infrastructure in decades and so they cut off an essential utility instead?

Edison is run by greedy morons

  5. Edison is not alone. Climate change is a major factor. The existing infrastructure is not designed for a warming earth and its more dynamic weather.

  6. Same area over and over again. 35 hours over Thanksgiving week. 25 hours over Christmas week. Now they are talking 24 to 48 hours? Again? SCE fails to maintain their infrastructure and I suffer the blackouts. More food in the refrigerator and freezer that will have to be thrown away. This is rediculous.

    • Absolutely the same areas while others go untouched. This is getting insane. Monday to Wednesday.? Where is the money from us citizens that pay for the electricity. We darn well pay enough.

  7. Safety first ! I appreciate our first responders & lineman who are there for our safety.
I have a new supply of solar garden lights that I will bring inside to light up the house & a new cooler for my food & beverages.

    • Yet again we are subjected to scrappy service for which they charge us over the odds. Where I live all our power lines are underground. We are also an over 55 community and my area is all electric.. so no heat, no light, no hot food or drinks, no cooking, no tv, no internet, wrapped up in blankets and wearing gloves. WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO GET IT SORTED.

  8. It is very bad they have turned off the power for 400 homes in canyon view estates. Here our hoa has landscaped the hill sides for fire prevention and the land all has sprinklers. But with the power off the sprinklers cant be turned on. Years ago there was a fire on border of canyon view estates and the sprinklers put the fire out.

  9. Absolutely disgusting that we pay over the odds for this crappy service. Where I live in Friendly Valley there are no power lines overhead they are all buried underground. Plus we are an over 55 community.

  10. Soo.. just wondering do we get any compensation for these outages besides the fact that were not using power. Generators were not supplied to customers and gas is not cheap. Also if someone could please point out the clause in the contract where I agreed to these mandatory shut off I would appreciate it.

  11. NO POWER ,NO PAYMENT

  12. Come on Edison! There are too many sick people and ederly people at home and it’s freezing and you take away the lifeline to heat and warm food! This is disgusting. I get being safe, but to what end : (
