Dubbed the Coltrane Fire, the incident was reported around 2:00 p.m. Saturday near the northbound 5 Freeway and Weldon Canyon Road, on the 23000 block of Coltrane Avenue said Marvin Lim, a spokesperson with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
“It’s a mulch pile,” said Lim.
Units quickly determined that a large mulch pile was on fire and putting out smoke, however there appeared to be little risk of spread to brush, officials said.
As of 2:15 p.m., Weldon Canyon Road was closed at The Old Road for an unknown duration, according to the California Highway Patrol.
