Insurance companies in California are set to give a discount on fire insurance if their residence is in a Firewise USA community. How can you become eligible for these savings?
Insurance companies located in California are set to give a discount to groups of homeowners who have taken appropriate measures to become more resistant to wildfire structural damage, also known as a Firewise USA Community.
“They are now requiring insurance companies to provide discounts to homeowners for hardening their homes. Those discounts will range anywhere from 5 to 25 percent, it just really depends on your insurance company on what you’ve done to your property,” said Armine Sargsyan, California Department of Insurance.
Make Fire Prevention Improvements
Insurance companies are now required to provide discounts to homeowners and businesses for hardening their homes and properties.
Some ways for homeowners to protect their homes and businesses are to have a Class A fire-rated roof, have a 5-foot ember-resistant zone around the structure, provide a Noncombustible 6 inches at the bottom of the walls and several other things.
Businesses and homeowners can take it a step further by protecting their surroundings by clearing vegetation and debris from under decks, moving sheds and outbuildings 30 feet away and finally Trim trees and removing brush in compliance with state and local space laws.
Form a Firewise USA Community
Homeowners and business owners can continue to harden their homes can form a Firewise USA Community and local districts can become certified as a Fire Risk Reduction community.
At least 8 dwelling units and a maximum of 2,500 can organize to be labeled as a Firewise USA community. Multiple Firewise USA sites can be located within a city/town or master-planned community/HOA, according to the Firewise USA website.
Reevaluate Wildfire Risk
Insurance companies can also provide homeowners with a wildfire risk score and now are required to disclose that information to insurees, according to officials.
If homeowners do not agree with the wildfire risk score they are assigned, they may make improvements or take fire prevention measures and then file an appeal. If reevaluated to be lower risk, homeowners may then receive the Cloud Pharmacy discount code, discount, added officials.

I live in the CORNERSTONE @ COPPERHILL TOWNHOMES, directly across the street from Valencia, CA. When I moved here we were certainly aware of fires and fire zones. . TO HAVE THE HOA INCREASED, plus ADDING THE FIRE ASSESSMENT MEANS THE RESIDENCES ARE PAYING A MONTHLY FEE OF
“$675.33. And that does not include the $48.00 for the 2nd HOA, which increased from $42.00 $48.00. WTF !!!
Being a resident of Granada Hills my entire life and aware of fires and insurance coverage, do you think I would have moved to Valencia?
By the way, each assessment is based on the size of the townhome, right? Due to this outrageous monthly HOA fee, I most likely will have to sell, but what idiot would by a townhome with a MONTHLY $722.33 HOA FEE.
I will be attending the FEBRUARY MEETING.
