Thick smoke and damage from a kitchen fire forced a Newhall resident out of their apartment Wednesday night, according to Los Angeles County Fire Officials.

The fire sparked at the Newhall El Dorado Estates Apartments around 8 p.m. and was contained to the kitchen area but spread smoke throughout the unit, said Station 73 Captain Kevin Gregor.

“This fire had a lot of smoke and a good amount of damage,” Gregor said.

Although no injuries were reported, the apartment was deemed uninhabitable, leaving the resident displaced.

Firefighters fully extinguished the flames, and investigators are continuing to review the official cause.
