The Castaic Fire broke out near Castaic Lake Saturday afternoon, officials said.

UPDATE (7:10 p.m.) — Forward progress on the Castaic Fire has been stopped at about 170 acres, according to officials with the Angeles National Forest.
Crews are expected to stay on scene of the Castaic Fire overnight Saturday to build a containment line and search for hotspots. All aircraft have been released.
“A rapid and aggressive attack by the Forest Service and Los Angeles County Fire have stopped the forward rate of spread holding the fire at appropriately 170 acres,’ said Oscar Vargas, Castaic Fire incident Commander.
UPDATE (5:40 p.m.) —The Castaic fire has grown to 160 acres with 0% containment, according to Angeles National Forest officials.
UPDATE (5:20 p.m.) — Road closures due to the Castaic Fire now include eastbound Templin Highway at Old Ridge Route, as well as Lake Hughes Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
UPDATE (5:13 p.m.) — The Castaic Fire has grown to at least 150 acres in size, according to Angeles National Forest officials.

UPDATE (5:11 p.m.) No structures are currently threatened by the Castaic Fire, according to the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station.
UPDATE (5:03 p.m.) Lake Hughes Road has been closed to traffic by the California Highway Patrol due to the Castaic Fire.
UPDATE (4:58 p.m.) The Castaic Fire has grown to at least 50 acres in size, according to Angeles National Forest officials.

UPDATE (4:48 p.m.) Angeles National Forest officials have confirmed that the Castaic fire is 15 acres with a moderate rate of spread. Weather in the area is currently very warm at 95 degrees, with southwest winds of around 13mph with gusts up to 19 mph according to the Los Angeles office of the National Weather Service.
Original Story: The brush fire, dubbed the Castaic Fire, was first reported at about 4 p.m. Saturday near the boat ramp at Castaic Lake on the 32100 block of Castaic Lake Drive, according to inital reports.
“It’s an ANF handle,” said Supervisor Imy McBride with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, referencing that although LACoFD helicopters were responding to the incident, that the U.S. Forest Service was in control of the incident due to it taking place on federal land.

The fire has grown to several acres in size within less than an hour, spreading through heavy brush, according to officials on scene.
