The Portola Fire by Beverly Crest and Benedict Canyon has caused a significant amount of smoke to come through the Santa Clarita Valley, causing concern for many residents that another fire had broken out.

The Portola Fire was reported just before 2 p.m. between the 9800 blocks of Portola and Yoakum drives east of Benedict Canyon Drive, according to Los Angeles Fire Department officials.
As of 6 p.m. Tuesday evening, the blaze had burned 35-40 acres, and was 10 percent contained, according to LAFD officials.
The Portola Fire generated a substantial amount of smoke that traveled north to Santa Clarita, causing many residents to worry about another fire in the city.
Santa Clarita recently experienced multiple fires over the past weekend, ranging from a small spot-fire off of Sand Canyon, to the larger South Fire that caused residents to temporarily evacuate their homes.
The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station took to social media to assure residents that there was no new fire in the city, as many people were calling 911 to ask if there was a new blaze.
