Two brush fires broke out along the 14 Freeway Sunday morning within 20 minutes, delaying traffic in both incidents.
Reported just before 8 a.m. Sunday, the Split Fire broke out on the northbound 14 Freeway just north of the 5 Freeway, according to officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The blaze reportedly reached approximately a half-acre in size before officials were able to halt forward progress roughly 20 minutes after it was initially reported.
No injuries were reported, and no structure were reportedly damaged as a result of the Split Fire, according to officials.
However, a SIG-Alert was issued for the No. 4 and 5 lanes for a brief time as firefighters cleared the incident, according to traffic logs from the California Highway Patrol.
Then, at around 8:15 a.m., a second fire was reported along the northbound 14 Freeway just south of Agua Dulce Canyon Road, according to officials.
“Forward progress was stopped at a half-acre,” said Supervisor Bernard Peters with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Dubbed the Canyon Fire, the blaze was reportedly located underneath power lines when fire officials got on scene. However, no power outages had been reported in the area to Southern California Edison during the course of the fire.
While no injuries or damaged structures were reported as a result of the Canyon Fire, all northbound traffic on the 14 Freeway was momentarily stopped as a helicopter with the Los Angeles County Fire Department had landed on the road for several minutes.
The HOV lane was opened back up once the helicopter left, according to CHP traffic logs.
