During 2015, 86 volunteers of all ages helped achieve the culmination of hours, according to the Sheriff’s Station.
“It is important to us to acknowledge the dedication and commitment that our volunteers provide to service our community,” said Captain Roosevelt Johnson of the SCV Sheriff’s Station.
April has been designated as National Volunteer Month. The month is dedicated to honor all community volunteers.
The volunteers work a variety of assignments, from patrolling out in the field, assisting with search and rescue operations, being part of a community emergency response team, helping in the records department or assisting the public at the front desk of the Sheriff’s Station.
At the annual dinner held Thursday, Deputy Fanny Lapkin, the coordinator of the volunteer program, recognized community volunteers for their achievements with certificates.

The “Volunteer of the Year” certificate was awarded to Reinhard Schnepp, who has been a dedicated volunteer at the SCV Sheriff’s Station since 2005.
In addition to taking on the role of the Volunteers on Patrol training officer, Schnepp has also taken an administrative leadership role for the program. He helped streamline the system for recording volunteer minutes and assists with record keeping on an ongoing basis.
“Being a volunteer at the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station is a way that I can give back to my community,” said Schnepp.
Other certificates were awarded to the Community Emergency Response Team Volunteer of the Year, Kristeen Dolan; the Disaster Communication Services Operator of the Year, James Spalding; and the Explorer of the Year, Michael Lapcheske.
Recognition was also given to volunteers that had reached various thresholds in their hours of volunteer service during 2015— ranging from 250 hours to 10,000 hours.
“We couldn’t do the job without them,” said Lapkin.
