The Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children's Cancer announced today that "Access Hollywood" co-anchor and correspondent Tony Potts will serve as the foundation's official spokesperson.

Potts, who resides in Valencia, has appeared at a number of Foundation events since first agreeing to serve as the master of ceremonies for the annual "An Evening Under the Stars" gala in 2005.

"I've been impressed with the Michael Hoefflin Foundation since day one, and it is a privilege for me to join them in their efforts," Potts said.  "The work that they do to help kids and their families' battle cancer is so important."

Like many Foundation volunteers, Potts said it was the children who inspired him to get more involved.

"I am amazed at the courage and the optimism these kids have in the face of sometimes overwhelming odds, and I wanted to do whatever I could to give them a fighting chance," he said.

The Michael Hoefflin Foundation focuses its efforts on outreach, education and research.  Staff and volunteers provide emotional, financial and practical support to families coping with childhood cancers.  And, since its founding in 1995 in honor of young Santa Clarita cancer victim Michael Hoefflin, the Foundation has funded more than $2 million of innovative medical research.  Raising public awareness of childhood cancer through a variety of activities is also a high priority of the Foundation.

"Tony has been such an amazing friend to the Foundation.  He is enthusiastic, always available to help, and we appreciate his desire and willingness to increase his involvement and help us expand our reach and influence," Foundation Executive Director Scott Schauer said.

A familiar presence on television, Potts has been with "Access Hollywood" since 1999 and covered many high profile events and top breaking entertainment new stories.  He is also a frequent contributor to the "Today" show, MSNBC, and CNBC.  Among his awards are an Emmy, two Associated Press Awards, and the 2007 NBA Celebrity All-Star Game MVP trophy.
