A second big rig fire has slowed traffic on the 5 Freeway in Santa Clarita Monday and prompted a SigAlert.

At around 8:10 p.m. Monday, first responders received reports of a vehicle fire on the southbound 5 Freeway near McBean Parkway in Santa Clarita, according to Captain Norman Queen with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“We had two engines on the call initially,” Queen said. “When they got on scene it was a fully involved big rig fire, so they requested a water tender.”

A SigAlert was issued for the southbound 5 Freeway at the location of the fire.

Traffic was initially at a standstill, but is now moving at speeds under 10 miles per hour in the most congested areas near the incident, according to the SigAlert.

The first major big rig fire Monday involved an Amazon truck on the northbound 5 Freeway in Santa Clarita. It also prompted a SigAlert.

No major injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
