19-Year-Old Who Died In 210 Crash Identified

A 19-year-old woman who died Sunday morning in a crash on the 210 Freeway just outside Santa Clarita city limits was identified.

Angie Rios, 19, from Lancaster was the woman who died in the 210 Crash in Sylmar, according to officials with the Los Angeles County Examiner’s Office.

Just after 5 a.m. Sunday, Rios the driver of a Chevrolet Volt was traveling eastbound on the 210 Freeway when she struck a guard rail just west of Polk Street,  said Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez, spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office.

Her vehicle came to rest in the no. 3 lane facing the wrong way, according to officials.

Moments later, a semi-truck traveling in the no. 3 lane struck Rios’ vehicle.

Rios was pronounced dead on scene by officials with the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD).

As of Monday morning, investigators are still working to determine if Rios died in the initial collision or as a result of being struck by the semi-truck.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
