The four-vehicle collision, involving one big rig, was called in after a witness reported street racing, but is currently under investigation, according to Josh Greengard, CHP spokesperson.

“The freeway was shut down due to the airlift,” Greengard said. “The incident is still being investigated at this time.”

There were reported to be five occupants in the overturned vehicle, three with injuries, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector David Michel.

The multiple-vehicle crash occurred around 9 a.m. on the Southbound Highway 14 near Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country.

The crash occurred right before 9 a.m. and the patients were airlifted about 30 minutes later to the Northridge Hospital Trauma Center.

“We had three patients flown to Northridge Hospital,” Captain Martin Maher said. “We had one 1-year-old female, a 2-year-old patient and the mother.”

They all had minor injuries but were airlifted because we couldn’t get them to a pediatric care center within 30 minutes on the ground which met criteria to request an air squad, according to Maher.

“When we got on scene we found the 1-year-old next to the vehicle, so we believe she was ejected from the vehicle,” Maher said.

The current condition of the patients is unknown at this time, more information will be added as it is available.

  1. My daughter and I saw the wreck. I can’t imagine the driver survived. The car was completely crushed on the driver’s side

  2. It’s about time that such irresponsible/criminal behavior displayed by drivers racing in our streets and highways and/or running away from the authorities, be punished with life without parole when they cause physical harm to innocent human beings. In addition, their assets should be confiscated to pay for the damages caused. Such irrational, uncontrolled, modern behavior needs to be eliminated at whatever cost.

  3. That is horrible and so preventable!!! The frwy, really!!!!!! Those poor victims!!!!!!!
