A bear was killed after being struck by multiple vehicles on the 5 Freeway Wednesday.

Around 1:35 a.m. Wednesday, officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) received reports of a traffic collision involving a bear on the northbound 5 Freeway near Templin Highway, just north of Castaic, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office.

“Upon arrival, several vehicles struck the bear within lanes,” Greengard said.

Animal Control responded to the location and removed the bear off the roadway, Greengard said.
