A civilian was transported to the hospital after they crashed into a Los Angeles County Fire Department brush patrol early Tuesday morning.
Around 12:20 a.m. Tuesday, first responders received reports of a traffic collision on the southbound 5 Freeway near Smokey Bear Road in Gorman, said Maria Grycan, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
“One of the vehicles was one of our patrols,” Grycan said.
An SUV crashed into the patrol, Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office said.
One civilian was transported to the hospital in unknown condition, according to Grycan.
A brush patrol is a 4-wheel drive truck equipped with 360 gallons of water and a firefighter.
These trucks are able to access small fire roads that are not accessible to fire engines during brush fires and injured hiker calls.
