A drunk driver was arrested for felony DUI Wednesday after he injured an individual in a Canyon Country crash.

Around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, first responders received reports of a traffic collision near Sand Canyon Road and Thompson Ranch Drive in Canyon Country, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office.

“Upon CHP arrival, officers on scene observed a two-vehicle crash,” Greengard said.

As a result of the crash, one person was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries, according to Maria Grycan, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department. 

Officers determined one of the drivers involved displayed signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication, according to Greengard.

Jaime Ruiz, 52, from Pacoima, was arrested for felony DUI, due to him causing injuries to someone other than himself, Greengard said.

Ruiz was booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s station jail, according to Greengard.
