A fatal crash in the pre-dawn hours blocked part of southbound Sierra Highway on Wednesday morning.

At about 5:50 a.m. Wednesday, emergency responders received reports of a traffic collision near Sierra Highway and Vasquez Canyon Road in Canyon Country, according to Fred Fielding, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“It was a two-vehicle collision,” Fielding said.

One person was declared dead at the scene, according to Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez, spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol – Newhall Area Office.

At least one other person was transported to a local hospital, according to Fielding.

As of 7 a.m. Wednesday, drivers were still experiencing delays in the area due to law enforcement activity.
