One person was killed in a crash on the 5 Freeway in Valencia Thursday night.

At approximately 9:35 p.m. Thursday, California Highway Patrol Officers responded to a call of a two-vehicle crash with injuries on the northbound 5 Freeway, just south of Valencia Boulevard, according to CHP officials.

“The driver of the BMW was stopped in the No. 3 lane for an unknown reason. The driver of the Ford, towing a box trailer, was traveling northbound on the I-5, approaching the driver of the BMW. The driver of the Ford allowed his vehicle to overtake the BMW and the front end of the Ford crashed into the rear of the BMW,” read the CHP incident report.

The driver of the BMW was transported by ambulance to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital for treatment but ultimately succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the crash, according to CHP.

The identity of the BMW driver is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

The driver of the Ford, a Santa Clarita resident,  was uninjured, and neither alcohol nor drugs were determined to be a factor in the crash in his case.
