A woman was sent to the hospital Monday morning after a 14 Freeway crash between her vehicle and a big rig truck trapped her in her car near Escondido Canyon Road, officials said.
At around 8:18 a.m. Monday, firefighters with the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to a report of a collision between a car and a big rig on the northbound 14 Freeway one mile north of Escondido Canyon Road, according to Supervisor Chris Thomas with the department.
“They were trapped in the vehicle,” Thomas said. “They were trapped against the steering wheel.”
The driver was said to be in “extreme pain” and reportedly sustained “facial trauma,” but did not experience “significant blood loss,” according to officials.
“They actually had to extricate them,” Thomas said.
A helicopter was initially dispatched to transport the woman, but was later called off after officials on scene reported that “she was too agitated to transport via air transport.”
“She was transported via ambulance to Henry Mayo,” Thomas said.
The No. 3 and 4 lanes on the northbound 14 Freeway were temporarily shut down as officials worked to clear the scene.
