A 5 Freeway crash north of Castaic sent one person to the hospital with “major injuries” after they rear ended a big rig Friday morning.

Around 5:15 a.m. Friday, first responders received reports of a traffic collision on the northbound 5 Freeway north of Lake Hughes Road in Castaic, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol, (CHP) Newhall Area Office.

“It was a two vehicle traffic collision,” Greengard said.

A Jeep Compass SUV rear-ended a big rig, according to Greengard.

The driver of the Jeep suffered major injuries and was transported to the hospital.

The crash blocked the slow lane for about an hour while crews worked to clear the wreckage.
