One Killed After High-Speed Newhall Crash

One person was killed as the result of a Newhall crash early Monday morning, with officials determining that speed was a factor.

Just before 3 a.m. Monday, officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department received reports of an expanded traffic collision near the intersection of Railroad Avenue and 5th Street in Newhall.

“They got on scene at 3 a.m.,” said Supervisor Sims with the department. “A vehicle was overturned, and one person was trapped.”

Officials worked for nearly 45 minutes to free the driver, a male adult in his 30’s who was the sole occupant of the single-vehicle crash, according to officials.

“One person was pronounced dead at the scene,” said Sergeant Westerfield with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

While the crash is still under investigation, Westerfield confirmed that investigators had determined that speed was a factor.

No other injuries were reported in connection with the crash. The identity of the driver is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin as of Monday morning.

Any witnesses to the crash are urged to contact officials at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station at (661) 255-1121.

  1. I went for a walk last night around 10pm (after it cooled down) and Copper Hill was like “24 hours of Le Mans.” Car after car doing what seemed like triple digits, some on the wrong side of the road. I know LASD is doing their best, but we could really use some late-night traffic enforcement in the SCV.

  2. We need to change the speed limits out here .Like on Like on Bouquet it should be 40 mph Here its mean s 60 when the speed limit says 50
