One person was killed Friday evening after a fatal four-vehicle crash on Highway 126 on the western edge of the Santa Clarita Valley.
At about 5:30 p.m. Friday, four vehicles became involved in a fatal Highway 126 crash east of Chiquito Canyon Road that left one person dead, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports.
CHP reports indicate that a pickup truck leaving the Chiquita Canyon Landfill “failed to yield” to a 1999 Ford F-150 traveling west on Highway 126.
“After the two vehicles crashed, they continued into the eastbound lanes and two additional vehicles were involved in the crash,” reads the CHP report.
The driver of the westbound Ford F-150, 38-year-old Piru resident Marco Anthony Marrufo, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to CHP.
The driver of the pickup, who had been leaving the landfill, was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Both eastbound lanes of State Route 126 were temporarily closed due to the incident, and reopened by 11:45 p.m. Friday.
No charges or arrests in relation to the fatal crash and Marrufo’s death have been announced as of Monday.
A GoFundMe has been launched to help support Marrufo’s wife and their four children in the wake of their sudden loss. Click here to donate and share.
The crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office. Any witnesses are encouraged to contact the area office at (661) 600-1600.
