UPDATE: Three Vehicles Catch On Fire After 5 Freeway Crash, Two Hospitalized

A truck towing a trailer caught fire after overturning in a 5 Freeway crash Wednesday afternoon, impacting traffic in the area, officials said.

Just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, reports were received of a trailer truck that had overturned on the southbound 5 Freeway near Templin Highway, according to Inspector Sky Cornell with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“It’s some sort of trailer/RV that might have propane tanks on board,” Cornell said. “(The fire) is isolated to just the freeway.”

One vehicle was “fully involved” with fire, which spread to two additional vehicles, according to Fire officials.

Initial reports indicated a person was possibly trapped inside one of the vehicles. However, upon arrival firefighters found no parties trapped, according to Cornell.

The No. 2 and 3 lanes of the southbound 5 Freeway are shut down near Templin Highway for an unknown duration, according to the CHP.

Two victims were sent to a local hospital in unknown condition.
