The driver of a car that plunged off the 5 Freeway in Castaic Wednesday was a Washington resident, officials say.
About 1:47 p.m. Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Personnel received a call regarding a traffic crash with injuries at the lower crossover of the northbound 5 Freeway, according to the CHP report.
“Once officers arrived on scene, they located a vehicle on Castaic Road under (the) I-5 with the driver ejected,” per CHP.
Emergency responders performed medical aid, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The reason the 2018 Chevrolet Cruze left the roadway and landed on Castaic Road remains unknown as of Thursday.
As of Thursday morning, the driver, a 54-year-old man from Seattle, Washington, remains unidentified pending notification of next of kin.
Any witnesses to the crash should contact the CHP Newhall Area Office, Officer Reynolds at (661)-600-1600.
