On Wednesday, the Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency, (SCV Water) announced a purchase of onsite energy-producing solar assets designed to aid the Santa Clarita Valley’s consumption of power.
SCV Water’s purchase of solar panels marks a continuation of the organization’s stated goal of more environmentally-friendly energy solutions.
“SCV Water prides itself on a commitment to sustainability,” said the agency’s General Manager Matt Stone. “Investing in solar will deliver a long-term source of clean energy to our valued customers.”
A firm known as TerraVerde Energy assisted SCV Water in the transaction, given the firm’s experience with negotiating purchases of large commercial solar projects.

“The solar panels have been operating on Agency property since 2011 and 2013 under a power purchase agreement,” SCV Water officials stated. “They were purchased for the fair market value buy-out of $15,467,000.”
The agency estimates a savings of $5 million over the life of the lease, which ends in 2039. The solar energy systems reportedly power around 17 percent of SCV Water’s total power consumption.
The agency has previously announced its dedication to a continued search for innovative and environmentally-friendly choices to benefit its customers.
SCV Water also recently received grant funds for a new generator from the California governor’s Office of Emergency Services, approximating $250,000, according to officials.
