‘Heat Alert’ Issued For Near Triple-Digit Temperatures In Santa Clarita Weather Forecast

Near triple-digit temperatures are expected in the Santa Clarita weather forecast, which are expected to linger until next weekend, officials said Friday.

The heat alert has been issued for Sunday Sept. 27, through Wednesday, Sept. 30, with Los Angeles County Public Health reminding everyone to take precautions to avoid heat-related illness, according to the department.

Public Health officials urged older adults, young children, outdoor workers, athletes, and people with a chronic medical condition who are especially sensitive to negative health impacts from extreme heat to avoid the heat, if possible.

By Saturday into Sunday temperatures are expected to spike, said Kathy Hoxsie, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service (NWS).

“The biggest jump is from Saturday into Sunday. That’s when we jump from the low 90s to the high 90s,” Hoxsie said.

Saturday temperatures are expected to be around 92 degrees, and by Sunday temperatures are forecast to be around 97 degrees, according to officials.

These high temperatures are expected to last until the beginning of October, according to Hoxsie.

Winds are expected to be around 30 to 35 mph through Saturday in the canyons and passes, however, winds are expected to diminish by Sunday.

Despite winds picking up slightly, NWS officials do not have any of the “very high” winds in their forecasts, that are typical for October within the next 14 days, Hoxsie said.

“While it is very important that everyone take special care of themselves, it is equally important that we reach out and check on others, in particular those who are especially vulnerable to the harmful effects of high temperatures, including children, the elderly, and their pets,” said Dr. Muntu Davis, Los Angeles County health officer. “High temperatures are not just an inconvenience, they can be dangerous and even deadly. But we can protect ourselves, our families, and our neighbors if we take steps to remain cool and hydrated.”

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
