Humid Heat Wave Settling Into Santa Clarita Valley This Week

A humid heat wave is settling into the Santa Clarita Valley this week, bringing temperatures in the low to mid-90s and an unusual amount of moisture to the area.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service say the three-day warmup is expected to last from Tuesday through Thursday. While temperatures aren’t expected to reach extreme levels, the added humidity could make conditions feel more uncomfortable than residents are used to.

“Temperatures aren’t extremely high, but with added moisture is going to add to the discomfort,” said David Gomberg, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

Humidity levels are expected to hover between 30% and 40%, which Gomberg said is relatively high for the Santa Clarita Valley during late June. The moisture is being pulled north from a storm system near Baja Mexico.

Gomberg encouraged residents to take precautions during the hottest part of the day, especially those most vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.

“Stay hydrated, and the people that are most vulnerable should try to stay out of the peak heat hours between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and try to stay in air conditioning as much as possible,” Gomberg said.

The warmer and slightly more humid conditions are expected to stick around through Thursday before temperatures begin trending closer to seasonal averages later in the week.
