Possible Snow, Rain Christmas Eve Weather Forecast For 5 Freeway Near Grapevine

In the middle of two expected storms, weather on Christmas Eve is sunny with clear skies making for ideal driving conditions, officials said.

“We are still expecting snow on the Grapevine tomorrow afternoon,” the California Highway Patrol posted on Facebook. “(Tuesday) is still a good day to travel. If you plan on traveling tomorrow afternoon, be sure to check the road conditions and have an alternate plan.”

The first storm hit Southern California on Sunday bringing heavy rain to parts of Los Angeles County causing poor driving conditions and snow in the grapevine. That storm passed Monday evening, but another is expected later this week, according to the National Weather Service.

Sitting in the middle of those winter weather conditions is a brisk and sunny Christmas Eve. Clear skies and temperatures in the mid 50’s should last all day with some cloudy skies in the evening and temperatures dropping to the mid 40’s, according to The Weather Channel. That should make for perfect driving conditions for those traveling for the holiday.

More rain is expected Wednesday afternoon with an estimated three to five inches of snow at higher elevations along the 5 between Wednesday and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

An estimated 115.6 million people will travel by car, plane, train, bus, or cruise ship between Dec. 21 and Jan. 1, according to the American Automobile Association. One of the best days to travel based on traffic during that period is Christmas Eve, with the day after Christmas being one of the worst, according to the American Automotive Association (AAA).

Poor weather conditions on Thursday could combine with high traffic estimates to make travel even more difficult.
