Red Flag Warning Issued Due To High Winds In Santa Clarita Weather Forecast

A red flag warning is expected to be put in place Wednesday due to low humidity levels and gusty Santa Ana wind conditions predicted for the Santa Clarita weather forecast.

Starting Wednesday evening, a red flag warning is scheduled to take effect for the Santa Clarita Valley due to gusty Santa Ana winds which could cause brush fires to spread rapidly, said David Sweet, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service.

“That is the peak period when we are expecting the strongest winds,” Sweet said.

During the three day period, wind gusts are predicted to reach speeds of 55 to 60 mph, according to Sweet.

Humidity levels are expected to dip into the single digits with temperatures in the mid-70s, according to Sweet.

Due to the low humidity levels and gusty northeastern winds, officials with the National Weather Service have issued a red flag warning.

As of Tuesday, Southern California Edison has not announced any Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS), however, they are likely to occur during wind events such as the one which took place on Thanksgiving Day.

By the weekend, winds are expected to diminish with relative humidity levels remaining dry.

Weather forecasters have added that no rain is in the near future for Santa Clarita.

“We don’t see any rain for a while, it doesn’t look encouraging,” Sweet said.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
