Triple-Digit Temperatures In Santa Clarita Weather Forecast, Heat Advisory Issued

Triple-digit temperatures are in the Santa Clarita weather forecast Monday, resulting in a heat advisory being issued for the second time in less than a week, officials said.

The heat advisory was issued for Santa Clarita as temperatures are forecasted to be over 100 degrees, said Bonnie Bartling, a weather specialist with the National Weather Service.

“Saugus can see temperatures up to 102,” Bartling said.

Humidity levels are also expected to be between 10 and 18 percent during the same period, according to officials.

Although the National Weather Service has not issued a Red Flag Alert, the combination of hot temperatures and low humidity level raises the risk of brush fires.

“The ridge is slowly moving out today with a trough coming in and we’ll start seeing some cooler temperatures,” Bartling said.

The heat advisory is set to be in effect until Tuesday morning.

The hot temperatures are resulting in the air quality index to reach 156, which is considered to be “unhealthy,” according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The air quality index can be compared to a yardstick that runs from 0 to 500. The higher the air quality index value, the greater the level of air pollution and the greater the health concern, EPA officials said.

When air quality index values are above 100, air quality is considered to be unhealthy, first for certain sensitive groups of people, then for everyone as air quality index values get higher, according to officials.

Active children and adults, and people with lung disease, such as asthma, should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors, according to officials with the Environmental Protection Agency.

Starting Tuesday, temperatures are forecasted to be in the upper 90s, and by the end of the week temperature are set to be in the mid-80s, Bartling said.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
