After last summer’s Sand Fire, burn areas remain dangerous as rains still pose the risk of mudslides.
This past week saw a small mudslide overcome a portion of Sand Canyon Road, near the Live Oak Campground. However, as of now, there are no road closures in our area according to a California Highway Patrol official.
“If you live in the burn areas you should be aware and be prepared to take action and get out of harm’s way if the local emergency managers are telling you to evacuate,” said Scott Sukup from the National Weather Service.

Residents can head to any Los Angeles County fire station for sandbags if needed, there is, however, a limit of 10 per resident.
KHTS was recently at a meeting with LA County and Santa Clarita City officials to discuss the potential dangers of flooding in the burn areas, you can find a full video of the meeting here.

What good are ten sand bags?
10 sand bags can cover up to ten linear feet for redirection or containment of water flow to a less hazardous area. Like your front or back door/porch areas or maybe a portion of your garage door if water would back-up or flow that way. If you need more sand bags just let the fire fighters at the station know the reason and they will allow you more sand bags in necessary situations.
