Dodgers Take Finale From Rockies Before Showdown With Giants

The Dodgers won three of four games in Colorado this weekend ahead of their four-game series with the San Francisco Giants.

Through 101 games this Major League Baseball season, the Los Angeles Dodgers have solidified themselves as “top dog” in the National League. But their win Sunday over the Colorado Rockies conjoined with a loss from the New York Yankees extended the team’s dominance across all of Major League Baseball.

After a 7-3 victory Sunday, which included rookie James Outman hitting a homerun in his first Major League at-bat, the Dodgers now own the best record in baseball at 68-33. Outman’s historic debut was just a snippet from a weekend for the Dodgers that included a 13-0 clobbering of the Rockies on Thursday, Trea Turner extending his hitting streak to 18 games, and a trade for relief pitcher Chris Martin whom the Dodgers acquired from the Chicago Cubs Saturday evening.

With a 12-game lead in the National League West over the second-place San Diego Padres, the team is prepared to make more moves ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline. The Dodgers have been linked to both Washington Nationals outfielder Juan Soto, and to a lesser degree, Los Angeles Angels’ two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani.

While a trade for either player seems more like a pipe dream than reality, as it stands today, the Dodgers are the betting favorites to win the 2022 World Series according to Draft Kings’ website.

The team is firing on all cylinders despite the loss of starting pitcher Walker Buehler and some turbulent appearances from closer Craig Kimbrel. The addition of Martin to the back end of the bullpen should provide the Dodgers some extra insurance in the case that Kimbrel can’t find himself leading up to the postseason.

The Dodgers now head to San Francisco to take on the Giants, who find themselves in limbo as to whether they will be buyers or sellers ahead of the trade deadline. At an even .500 record of 51-51, the Giants are four games behind the third wild card spot with three teams ahead of them.

The series begins Monday evening at 6:45 p.m. PDT. Dodgers starter Andrew Heaney makes his second start since returning from the injured list against Giants starting pitcher Logan Webb at Oracle Park in San Francisco. Tyler Anderson will take on Alex Wood in game 2 of the series Tuesday, before Julio Urias and Giants starting pitcher Alex Cobb square off on Wednesday evening before wrapping up the four-game series in a Thursday matinee game.
