A Conversation With Steve Knight – December 29, 2015
Hour 1 – Taken from Knight.House.Gov
“Steve was elected to the California State Assembly in November 2008, succeeding Sharon Runner. Four years later he was elected to the California State Senate where he represented the 21st District until 2014. While in the State Legislature, Steve worked to cut the tax burden on California families and businesses, and to restore the state’s economic vitality.
Congressman Knight was sworn in to the United States House of Representatives in 2015 where he continues to fight for his constituents by supporting working families, protecting Second Amendment rights and strengthening communities through job creation.”
In the first hour Arif interviews Congressman Knight on everything from defunding Planned Parenthood to his fundamental beliefs on how to reform this country.
Hour 2 – A new year means a new opportunity to get your finances in order. In the second hour Arif and Jeff give tips for some money moves that you should add to your “New Year’s Resolutions”
1. Pay Off Debt – the Federal Reserve is raising interest rates for the first time in a long time, which means there is a small window to get your outstanding debts in order, which you should do from highest to lowest interest rates for making payments.
2. Create An Emergency Fund – experts recommend stashing away 3-6 months of costs in case of unexpected expenses that can do crippling damage if you are unprepared.
3. Increase Your Retirement Savings – Contribute at least 10% of your income to retirement accounts. At the least, increase your contributions by a percentage point or two every few months so that you are properly stashing away money for your retirement.
In addition to increasing your retirement savings, you can maximize your accounts by upping your 401(k) and getting an employer match.
