Though Santa Clarita audiologist Nola Aronson isn’t sure of the specifics yet, she noted that the nonprofits Advanced Audiology helps support with hearing aid proceeds will be invited, along with patients, community members, vendors and more.
Over the last three decades, Aronson has focused her approach on educating her patients and the community, and wants the public to know that hearing aids today are not what they used to be.

For example, hearing aids are now so small that they usually can’t be seen by others, making hearing loss often more noticeable than a hearing aid, according to Aronson.
In addition, Aronson noted that it is a common misconception to believe that a hearing aid will amplify the noise in a loud environment, and clarified that it will only amplify the speech.
While people with severe hearing loss are more likely to realize there’s a problem and get help, it’s those with milder hearing loss that usually don’t realize the significant improvement a hearing aid could make in their everyday life.
“It’s the subtle things, where you have pretty good hearing in the low frequencies, so you hear okay on an everyday basis talking one on one,” Aronson explained. “But they can’t hear well in noise, so they stop going to meetings, they stop going to restaurants, they stop doing the things that they love to do.”
Even simply having the television on in the background or the blender running in the kitchen can interfere with a person’s ability to follow a conversation when they have a hearing loss, Aronson added.
“People don’t realize how many times a day they say, ‘What?’” Aronson said. “They think it’s a normal thing to do.”
No matter the degree of hearing loss, Aronson can help her patients determine the best solution for their individual situation, whether that means getting a hearing aid or deciding if it’s not necessary in their particular case.
“That’s what we’re here for,” Aronson said. “We’re here to educate people.”
