The mission of Triumph is to help children, adults and veterans struggling with Spinal Cord Injury Disorder, according to officials.

“I am consistently astonished by the inspiring work they do,” Acosta said. “The Triumph Foundation is a special part of our community and I couldn’t be more proud to thank them for the work they are doing to make our region, and California as a whole, a better, more compassionate place to live.”

The Triumph Foundation’s ultimate goal is to  provide resources, help and security to people who are paralyzed. The nonprofit offers support to the injured as soon as they become paralyzed, and continue supporting them for the rest of their lives, according to officials.

One way the Triumph Foundation helps paralyzed Santa Clarita residents is by providing different events dedicated to people in wheelchairs.

In April, the Triumph Foundation held their seventh annual Wheelchair Sports Festival.

During this event close to 1,000 athletes competed in several sporting events during the two-day exhibition, which included hockey, basketball, quad rugby, handcycling, SCUBA, track and field and skating, all played from a wheelchair.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
