The “Families Belong Together: CA-25 Unity March,” organized by several different Democratic activist groups, brought together hundreds of residents from the Santa Clarita, Simi and Antelope Valleys in solidarity against the immigration policies of the Trump administration.

“We are lifting our voices in opposition to the Trump administration’s inhumane policies of incarcerating families, drugging children without parental consent, refusing to reunite separated separated families, and using innocent children as bargaining chips,” organizers posted on the event’s Facebook page.

Katie Hill, who is challenging Rep. Steve Knight for control of the CA-25 U.S. House seat, and Rep. Brad Sherman, D-San Fernando Valley, both spoke during the event.

After the march, demonstrators met up for the CA25 Unity Barbecue at Dr. Richard H. Rioux Memorial Park, a second event aimed at unifying Santa Clarita Democrats for the November election. Guests included Eric Bauman, Chair of the California Democratic Party, Assembly District 38 Nominee Christy Smith, and Hill.

Some of the event’s organizers included Santa Clarita-based organizations, such as SCV Young Democrats, CA25 United for Progress and the Democratic Alliance for Action of Santa Clarita.

“The main reason a lot of people are out protesting still, despite pending legislation, is because of the cruel detainment — not just the separation,” said Mai Nguyen Do, corresponding secretary of the SCV Young Democrats.

Do, a first-generation American, is a daughter of refugees from Vietnam, and said she was encouraged by the large showing of support at the march.

“Sometimes our elected officials do not represent our values,” Do said. “This demonstration shows them what we believe in.”

  1. You break the law you risk being separated from your children. Do not break the law. Do things the legal way. We are a lawful nation! If you go to jail they take your kids!

  2. We should be notified when these resistors are loose so we can protect our loved ones..

  3. Bless everyone protesting the cruel Nazi-like separation policies of the fascist Trump administration. Child caging is not an America family value. For profit incarseration is an evil unto its own. Trump should be arrested for mass kidnapping, booted from office and imprisoned.

    • lol… booted from office for upholding the law? Arrested for mass kidnapping? Fascist? For profit? Obama’s admin separated children from their parents too, but the left is up-in-arms about it now? Hypocrites!!! The law is the law. Petition congress to change the laws. Better yet, get ANGRY at the south-of-the-border countries that DO NOT care about their own citizens. If they had a better life in their own countries, maybe they wouldn’t have to endanger their children or break into a foreign country. Why isn’t the bleeding-heart-tolerant-left protesting Mexico and it’s lack of available jobs or lack of welfare programs? Mexico has a two year sentence for illegal immigration! Why isn’t the left protesting that? Mexico leads the way in human trafficking. No one is upset about that? Children and women are used as drug mules, but not a single peep from the loving-left about that horrific practice? Why are illegal immigrants more important that US citizens? US citizens don’t get to take their children to prison? Why should ILLEGAL immigrants have more rights and better treatment than US citizens? So tired of hearing Trump does this, or Trump does that…. GROW UP! In 2005 Obama clearly said “The American people are a welcoming and generous people. But those who enter our country illegally, and those who employ them, disrespect the rule of law. And because we live in an age where terrorists are challenging our borders, we simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, and unchecked. Americans are right to demand better border security and better enforcement of the immigration laws.” Bill Clinton Said “One of these areas is the problem of illegal immigration. After years of neglect, this administration has taken a strong stand to stiffen the protection of our borders. We are increasing border controls by 50 percent. We are increasing inspections to prevent the hiring of illegal immigrants. And tonight, I announce I will sign an executive order to deny federal contracts to businesses that hire illegal immigrants.
Let me be very clear about this: We are still a nation of immigrants; we should be proud of it. We should honor every legal immigrant here, working hard to become a new citizen. But we are also a nation of laws.” … but Trump is evil one? Because he upholds the law? SMH

    • Care to provide ANY proof of illegal activity that would even be a consideration for investigation?

      • Yes, on your first four questions. I see from your post you are filled up with right-wing talking points but sadly lacking facts and compassion for others. These are people from Central America that because of lawlessness in their native lands fled rather than being robbed, raped and murdered by gangs. Those are facts. Also, up until a month ago people seeking refuge from domestic and gang violence were allowed to apply for asylum until AG Sessions said they couldn’t.

Do you think these people would have willingly left their homes and everything they still may have owned to make that most perilous journey if not in fear for the lives of their children and themselves?

You are trying to make this political when, in fact, it is a human rights issue, just as it was in the thirties in Nazi Germany when Hitler separated families. And you tell me to grow up? I say to you, get educated and that will not happen watching the FOX NEWS propaganda channel.

Lastly, do you not recall what your savior told you about what you do to the least of us? I sincerely hope you are simply misinformed and that you are not as cold-blooded as your post would make you out to be. America used to be known for compassion and empathy. Now, thanks to Trump, we are rightly shunned and ridiculed. Does that make you proud to be an American?

I welcome these brave determined souls wanting a chance at life with open arms. What the hell is wrong with you?

        • We can not save the whole world Denny. We still need to go through the legal channels. You are trying to make this a political campaign, not a people issue. There are many countries that need help but you, and the Democrats are now using their plights as your way back into the graces of the American people. It won’t work because that kind of propaganda is wrong. Stop using the poor people you have no knowledge of to further the agenda of those who will oppress our nation again. We the legal citizens of the USA are tired of losing and want to go back to following the laws of our country.

          • Trump caused this and it is pure evil. I do know people from these countries. Their stories are terrifying. It’s no wonder they risked it all to get out. Where is your humanity? What did your savior say about helping your brothers and sisters?

    • So sad that you have bought into this propaganda. Trump did not do this, it has been going on for years. Obama followed this law too. People have to realize that we are a country of Laws, that we all have to adhere to. If I break the law, or put my children in danger by breaking the law, I will have to suffer the consequences. My children would be removed from me and the danger I put them in. Do not put me in a box and call me names because I want our borders safe and secure. I am for all LEGAL immigration and helping the children. We have many veterans and homeless legal citizen that we do not give a bed ans food too. This illegal people get more than the citizens get. They need to follow our countries law and respect all of those laws including not coming over our borders without the proper vetting. Many of those children do not even know the people they cross the border with. They will be abused and sold into sex trafficking. This is not a political issue, as this protest indelicate it is a people issue. We do not get to break the laws we do not want to follow.

  4. Well said Denny

  5. I think everyone brings up good points on what’s going on with our current immigration situation. However, this crisis is bigger than Trump, bigger than the United States can handle or any other country south of our border can handle. There’s a reason why so many people are fleeing their country of origin and coming to the United States regardless of what could happen here. The way a lot of these people see crossing the border is almost anything is better than risking death from gangs and cartels in their homeland. Immigration and issues that arise from that can’t be completely fix unless we fix the reason behind the cause. We can only put a bandaid on it
