Investigation Continues For Fatal Three-Car Crash On Sierra Highway

Coroners have yet to release the identity of a victim from a fatal crash that occurred on Sierra Highway last Thursday night.

The victim has only been identified as a older white male, age 53, who was a veteran, according to family. KHTS AM-1220 has learned the identity of the victim; however, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office is still working to make official notifications, so the name is being withheld from the record for the time being.

He was the only reported fatality in the three-car crash that left three other people injured.

CHP began to receive reports of a traffic collision on Sierra Highway between Sand Canyon Road and Vasquez Canyon Road, at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15,

A pickup truck driven by a male was traveling southbound on Sierra Highway, south of Vasquez Canyon Road, when a sedan with two people was driving northbound on Sierra Highway was approaching the truck from the opposite direction.

A 27-foot motorhome was also driving northbound on Sierra Highway behind the sedan before. the pickup truck then began to drift into the northbound lane, side swiping the sedan, according to CHP officials.

The pickup truck then overturned and collided head-on into the motorhome. The driver of the pickup truck, identified as a 53-year old male from Lancaster, was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, according to CHP officials.

The driver of the sedan, a 40-year-old individual, and passenger, a 66 year-old male, both from Van Nuys, and the driver of the motorhome, a 41-year-old male from Palmdale, were all treated for their injuries at Henry Mayo Newhall hospital.

Sierra Highway was temporarily closed that night to conduct an ongoing investigation, though drugs and alcohol are not considered factors and no arrests have been made, said CHP officials.
