Following behind Katie Hill for every step of the way leading up to the June 5 primary election, the HBO Vice News team documented all the critical moments involved in the campaign to represent Santa Clarita’s Congressional district.

The latest installment in the Vice News series picks up where the previous one left off, with Hill and her young campaign staff preparing for the last two weeks of the election.

The episode walks us through the daily life of a congressional candidate, from the all too familiar homebase where Hill seems to have lived these past couple months, to a campaign event in one of her supporter’s backyard, to the first “negative mailer” sent around regarding Hill’s platform.

One of the more featured moments of this part of the campaign was the “Boiler Room,” the Hyatt Regency hotel room that campaign manager Zack Czajkowski and field director Ben Steinberger locked themselves in for the two days leading up to the closing of the primary election ballots.

During that time, the two were joined by other 20-something-year-old campaign staff workers, as the team made calls to voters and ensured that precincts were being walked on behalf of Hill’s campaign and the Democratic party.

The episode of Vice News Tonight concludes at a Hill campaign party in Newhall where Hill, much like she had done in a supporter’s backyard earlier in the episode, walks around greeting her constituents and watch election results roll out.

Documenting the anxiety that primary election candidates must have all felt on Tuesday night, the camera captures the moment that Democratic challenger Bryan Caforio’s 2-point lead eventually dissolves, and Hill is able to ensure the victory.

Hill secured the second spot in the November general election with 20.25 percent of vote, surpassing Caforio’s 18.29 percent of the vote. However, Knight was able to garner 52.82 percent of the vote, and put a large number between himself and the second-place Hill.

“Obviously this is just the beginning,” said Hill while she was addressing her staff and supporters after the final vote numbers declared the race in her favor. “Take a few days, take a few deep breaths and then we’re getting right back to work.”

Vice News Tonight plans on doing a follow-up episode regarding Hill’s advancement to the general election where she will challenge Incumbent Republican Steve Knight.

The 2018 midterm general election is scheduled for Nov. 6.
