An email to customers on Saturday, April 16, 2016 explained that the online store for the business would close that day, and that gift cards would only be honored through April 29.
The online store now hosts only a notice to customers about the closings.
The Santa Clarita store, located on The Old Road, is currently experiencing an influx of customers due to the closing sales offered as part of the store’s last days.
One longtime customer, Grant Gilmore, was sorry to see the business go.
“I’ve been a member (of their member club) for probably ten years,” said Gilmore. “I was pretty surprised to hear they were closing.”

However, he was not surprised to hear that the internet marketplace had already closed.
“Their internet service was never very good in the first place,” Gilmore said. “It’s understandable. You can’t compete with Amazon.”
On Sunday, April 17, the Santa Clarita Store was offering a blanket 10 percent discount on all merchandise, and that number is expected to go up as customers buy the last of the stores stock.
A manager at the store said that the corporate office for Sports Chalet had already been shut down, leaving individual stores to sell off the last of their merchandise at increasing discounts.
However, the time before these sales run out is not clear at this point. The manager did not know the timeline of the Santa Clarita store’s closing.
“I don’t know,” he said. “We’re just going for right now.”
