Sulphur Springs School District officials are holding a groundbreaking ceremony for the Tommye D. Warner Annex at Valley View Community School on Friday, May 1 at 1:45 p.m.

“This is a celebration because we are finally beginning construction on modernizing the Valley View Community School,” said Lynn David, who’s the assistant superintendent of business services. “The entire project encompasses a new building for special needs and the general population.”

Not only will Measure CK provide a new facility for the medically fragile students, but they will also modernize the administration building, reconstruct the parking area and modernize the playground.

The new annex will also get a brand new library and 12 new classrooms, which will take away the portables on campus.

The Valley View Community School serves as a regional center for people with severe disabilities.

“We’re going to have a lot more space and the facilities will be better organized,” David said. “All new classrooms and modernized equipment will help us to continue to meet the needs of all our students.”

The traffic to and from the center is also expected to improve with the restructure of the parking lot.

Measure CK is upgrading the school’s aging and outdated facilities to ensure they meet 21st-century health, safety and academic standards.

Measure CK appeared on the June 5, 2012 ballot. All registered voters who lived in the Sulphur Springs School District were eligible to vote and Measure CK had to be supported by at least 55% of those who voted.

Measure CK will generate $72 million to upgrade and repair the schools, update technology, reduce debt and improve energy efficiency to save money that can be used in the classrooms.

Construction will officially begin on May 11 and is expected to take 18 to 24 months to complete.

David says the district is thankful that the community approved the Measure CK and they are eager to get started on the new facilities.

“We would like to thank the community for their support and we’re excited to share our new facilities with the students and the rest of the community.”

Valley View Community School is located at 19414 Sierra Estates Dr, Santa Clarita, CA 91321
