On Oct. 23, 2015, SoCalGas crews discovered a leak at one of the company’s four natural gas storage wells, the Aliso Canyon storage field.

SoCalGas operates four storage fields: Aliso Canyon, Honor Rancho, La Goleta, and Playa del Rey. Together they have a combined inventory capacity of 134.1 billion cubic feet, according to SoCalGas’ storage expansion study.

“I visited the (Honor Rancho) facility in August,” Knight said on his website. “I feel it is important to gather as much information as possible on natural gas and storage facilities, especially those that are near our community.”

Knight said the facility is checked constantly, adding that SoCalGas crews are checking three or four times than required.

“The Aliso Canyon gas leak is obviously what’s sparking a lot of things, but we came up here back in August even before the leak and wanted to get a good site tour and talk to the gas company and find out how far this goes, where the fields are and the impact, (among other concerns),” Knight said. “But since the Aliso Canyon leak, obviously this is heightened the awareness and we wanted to come back up here and make sure what we saw in August is still the same, and it is.”

Knight said his goal as California’s 25th Congressional District representative is to make sure the leak is sealed as “quickly and efficiently as possible, and that the residents of Porter Ranch and the surrounding areas are safe from long-term health issues,” according to his website.

“This incident that is happening in Aliso Canyon is a bad deal, we all know that,” Knight said. “Checking in on the other fields and making sure Aliso Canyon is moving in the right direction is part of what we should be doing.”
