Covering everything expectant mothers need to know about pregnancy and beyond, the course features childbirth education, transition to parenthood, child and infant safety and breastfeeding.
“You start from the beginning — how you got there and what to expect through the whole process,” said Megan Bosworth, clinical director of perinatal services at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. “It’s a really fun class.”

During the first four weeks, attendees will learn about pregnancy, stages of labor, pain management, relaxation techniques, Cesarean sections, the post-partum period and newborn care.
Then one week each will be spent on the following topics: transition to parenthood, child and infant safety and CPR, and successful breastfeeding.
“The American Heart Association comes in and teaches CPR for infants and children, which is really exciting,” Bosworth said.
While expectant mothers can attend the course on their own or with their significant other, Bosworth noted that friends, mothers, siblings, etc. who are planning to be part of the woman’s primary support system are also welcome.
“You really want whoever is going to be your team to be there,” Bosworth said.
For those who aren’t able to attend the full seven-week course, an exclusive one-time class that covers weeks one through four of the “Labor of Love” series is also available as a Saturday class.
